Hey y’all. First and last time I will ever say that.

If anyone wants to check out the site build as it is being developed, the new URL is: http://blackberry.takashstudio.com. I’m going to be working on it primarily this weekend, so Saturday will probably be all about the structure and design elements, and then Sunday I’ll start dropping in the content.

To the Flash team, could you let me know when the flash banner is ready and send it to aaron@takashstudio.com or hotaka@gmail.com. That would be nifty.

Hey everyone,
A reminder that we are meeting as usual at 2:25 pm in the usual place (no, that does NOT mean the stairwell). We need to work on the flash timeline as well as the overall deliverables (we need to finish these up soon so that we have enough time to iron out any bugs). Here are Chris’ comments on our mockups (this is the same thing that I forwarded by email):

The timeline looks promising - but I’d like to see how it’s going to function / what you’re going to do with the white space at the bottom.

You might run into some problems with space by having the majority of your information on the product info pages stuffed into the main timeline - but I’ll let you guys gauge that on your own.

On the product page - you have a big image of ‘college life imagery’ - but no titles or anything - is that image going to be immediately covered with a phone? Or Is the flash going to rest there until someone clicks?

Keep going - not much time left!

Hey all, just a quick reminder–we’re meeting at 2:25 in the 3rd floor Tel classroom, and we have to power through two site designs in order to be on schedule for Wednesday. Let’s make this one count. Chris said that we need the following:

Here they are!
Upon taking a second look, I’m not sure if most of these will be useful for the project, but they’re pretty nonetheless. Let’s all work together to decide on a fun font to use!

Font Ideas 1

Here are the things we discussed in the meeting today regarding the toolkit and design of the project.

1. We’re doing the “A Day in My Life With Blackberry” concept which incorporates the timeline idea as well as the dinner-date-ish one.

2. Colors: Background - White; Accent Colors - From the Emotional Palette > Green (Main accent color) and Purple (Secondary accent color)

3. We discussed some aspect of the button design - but for now all we decided on was that there was going to be a shine applied to it.

4. We discussed the possibility of doing a “Stop-Motion Roll Over” for the rich-media/flash aspect of the built that could easily be used for the flash banner as well. What happens is when you roll over a certain part of the timeline, a thingee pops up and does a rolls forward a stop motion animation of the person doing that action (for example, having a coffee outside and checking their email. Or something). We can use photography for this. It’s relatively easy and will only require three to five photographs (we’re going for a jerky movement).

5. We started looking at accent fonts but when I left to catch the train, nothing had been decided. What’s the options for that, guys? Do you haz a PDF?

Hi everyone,
Don’t forget that we have a meeting tomorrow in which we will finalize our ‘toolkit.’
We’re a little behind schedule, according to our project plan (if we go by that schedule, we were meant to have the toolkit done by Friday the 20th, and start on the actual designs for each major project component tomorrow.) We can adjust the plan if necessary, and include in-class approval meetings with Chris; I think we neglected to consider that aspect when we modified our timeline.
Anyhow…let’s get cracking!

Anvers (the font Blackberry loves) is available on the DMA 422 website — Chris just added it. Also, he said we may be able to use other accent fonts, depending on the situation. We can include them in our work and he will let us know if it’s OK or not.

Hey everyone,

I emailed Chris about the assignment, and this is what he said:

As per the project brief, I want 3 concepts - overall concepts, images, colours, feelings, descriptions. Fonts you’re kinda limited to - the font is actually Anvers. It’s all in the styleguide. Basically the first stage is an overall ‘campaign’ feel, and after I pick an overall theme for you, the second stage will be creating a ‘toolbox’ of refined imagery / buttons / UI elements that you’ll be using.

So that is what we have to work toward for next week. On a related note, we’re going to have a meeting on Monday between 2:25 and 4:15 pm. We need to work on the designs this weekend so that we can discuss and finalize them before Wednesday’s class (remember, we want to give them to Chris on Wednesday).
